What happens in the appointment
A standard NHS sight test takes 20-30 minutes and covers your vision, prescription, eye pressure, and a check of the back of the eye. If you're in your 40s or 50s and starting to need reading glasses, the optometrist will note your near-vision prescription - exactly what we'll ask for when UK presbyopia drops launch.
Where to book
High-street chains have the most availability. Independent opticians often have shorter waits and more time per appointment.

When the drops launch, we'll ask for an eye test from the last 12 months. Sort it now and you're ready on day one. These are independent UK opticians - we may earn a small commission.
Most UK adults 40+ get a free eye test. Specsavers has same-week slots nationwide.
